Review:

You may think spy films have been done to death. But then Melissa McCarthy, Rose Byrne and Miranda Hart (yes, that’s right Miranda) team up to create something very different.

The now almost iconic duo of Melissa McCarthy and director Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, The Heat and next year’s highly anticipated Ghostbusters reboot) never fail to bring audiences a film that will have you laughing from start to finish. And Spy is no exception.

CIA analyst Susan Cooper (McCarthy) has spent her entire career sitting behind her desk. Yet she’s saved dashing agent Bradley Fine’s (Jude Law) life countless times. Assuming the role of his “guardian angel” she watches over his missions and keeps him out of harm's way using just a hidden ear piece and some high tech equipment. But when Bradley is assassinated by Rayna Boyanov (Rose Byrne), a Bulgarian arms dealer, Susan finally gets the chance to use her CIA training and go out into the field in an operation to take down Boyanov and avenge Bradley. Having always been underestimated, it’s time for Susan to prove them all wrong.

It’s an espionage spoof at it’s finest. There’s high energy, witty characters and even a bit of action thrown in along the way. But one of the highlights of the film has to be the surprisingly hilarious Jason Statham in the side role of Rick Ford, a stubborn British agent - that alone is something you certainly don’t want to miss.
