Review:

“I think you know what I’m talking about, ladies and gentlemen. That’s right: motherfucking space Nazis in a film called Iron Sky.” A ludicrous sci-fi comedy six years in the making, Iron Sky is a true gem of the breakthrough online film collaboration movement.

In the dying days of World War II, with Germany on the brink of defeat, a secret group of Nazi scientists hatch a preposterous plan for escape and revenge. Fleeing to the dark side of the moon, these dying remnants of the Third Reich have spent more than 70 years biding their time and building their armaments.

It’s now 2018. Astronaut James Washington (Kirby) inadvertently discovers their base, throwing the Nazi plans into overdrive. The skies above us will soon play host to the space invasion of the Fourth Reich! In a tale of unparallelled absurdity, a giant Nazi space fortress, complete with an armada of flying saucers, goes head-to-head with the under-prepared planetary defenses of Earth.

Despite the brash exterior of Iron Sky, however, Vuorensola does an excellent job judging how far to tread down the road of dark Nazi comedy. Skillfully tempering potential depravity with edgy satire, the last hope for Earth rests with an inept Republican administration headed by a trigger-happy United States President with somewhat more than a passing resemblance to Sarah Palin. The world is in grave peril. If the Moon Führer is to be stopped, we’re in for some serious fireworks.

“The battle for Earth is gonna get Nazi!”
