Review:

Colin Firth’s latest rom-com is set in the 20s and sees him take on the role of Stanley Crawford, who is the man behind the stage persona of Wei Ling Soo- the celebrated conjuror. He’s arrogant and dismissive of others, particularly spiritualists who claim that they can perform ‘real’ magic. At the request of a friend, Stanley finds himself involved in trying to uncover a potential mystic swindle. Sophie (Emma Stone) is a clairvoyant and the aristocratic Catledge family have requested her services in trying to communicate with the late Mr Catledge. Stanley is immediately dismissive of supposed abilities, but is astonished when she achieves things that appear supernatural and without rational explanation.

Stanley faces the possibility that everything he believes in could be entirely false. Full of illusions and trickery, you’re never quite sure what is real. But will you be fooled by the biggest trick of all?
